Lisa Marshall

"The stories we tell ourselves about leadership have much to do with what we believe our possibilities to be. I work with clients to help them let go of their old stories so that there's room for new, bigger stories - about themselves, about their organizations, and about what life holds possible.

One of the conundrums of leadership maturity is that you have to move from focusing on doing to focusing on "being". Who you are becomes as important as what you do. My coaching is a mix of holding a safe container in which the client can do the hard work of growing up to the next level at the same time that I'm challenging them to be bigger than they think they can be. 'Unconditional love with an edge,' one client called it."

Lisa J. Marshall, Master Certified Coach, created The Smart Work Company to prepare executives, teams and people in organizations everywhere to be heroes so they can do their best work. Lisa works with customers and partners to:

Lisa, a nationally recognized authority on leadership maturity and the use of story in the workplace, has consulted for Intel, The Army Corps of Engineers, Capital One, EDS, Hewlett Packard, NASA, Taiwan Semiconductor and the Dept. of Agriculture. She has coached at Intel, KPMG, Booz-Allen Hamilton, Accenture, the Department of Energy and EDS.

Ms. Marshall’s most recent book is called Speak the Truth and Point to Hope: The Leader's Journey to Maturity. She spent 12 years as an film and video producer documenting social change before she moved into business, teaching communication and collaboration skills to technical professionals.
